Demystify the process of scholarly reading by making the materials available online and the course reusable
The pedagogical approach for computer scientists necessitates meticulous documentation and early availability of educational materials. While iterative development of course content is common in other disciplines, it may be perceived as unstructured by those with a computational background. To this end, educators have created slides as open educational resources hosted on platforms like GitHub to facilitate accessibility and foster a culture of open science.
The feedback received underscores the value placed on structured and retrievable online resources by students in technical fields. They prefer clear, structured materials that they can reference at their convenience. Moreover, the interactive and discursive nature of the courses has been well-received, highlighting the importance of in-person instruction to cultivate a robust debate culture. Moving forward, the emphasis will be on enhancing the reusability and quality of course resources, leveraging my experience with Wikimedia and open science to enrich the educational experience.
